Tryouts

Travel & Select hockey is designed for players seeking a higher level of competition and development. Teams compete against associations throughout Nebraska and surrounding states, with practices focused on skill development, teamwork, and game strategy. Players should be committed to regular practices, league games, and weekend tournaments throughout the season. Travel & Select hockey are ideal for athletes who are ready to challenge themselves and continue growing both on and off the ice.

Tryout Process

1. Register for Travel tryouts and attend the tryout sessions.
2. You will receive a phone call or email if you have been selected for the team. Please accept within 24 hours, so coaches can begin calling those who did not make the team.
3. If you didn't make the team, you can try out for our Select team at your age level. Use the "REGISTER" button under 2026-2027 SELECT TRYOUTS to register. Apply your $250 credit when you check out, if you tried out and didn't make the Travel team.
4. For both Travel and Select tryouts, there is a $50 non-refundable fee.

Based on player registration numbers and the overall level of competition at tryouts, Lincoln Hockey may field a second travel team at select age levels. Our goal is to provide as many players as possible with a competitive travel hockey experience while maintaining an appropriate level of play for each team.

The decision to form a second team will be based on:

• Total number of players registered for tryouts
• Overall skill level and competitiveness of the player pool
• Availability of qualified coaches
• Ice availability and league participation opportunities

A second team is not guaranteed. Final team decisions will be made after the completion of tryouts.

Is there a fee to tryout?

There is a non-refundable $50 fee to try out for a team, plus a $250 commitment fee. If your child is offered a spot on the team, that $250 will rollover to the team budget. If they do not get an offer, that money can be transferred over to your season registration.

Will there definitely be two travel teams?

Not necessarily. A second team will only be formed if there are enough registered players and the overall talent level supports creating two competitive teams. If those criteria are not met, one travel team will be selected.

What happens if my child didn't get an offer from a Travel team?

If you did not receive an offer for the Travel team, you will be refunded the $250 commitment fee to be used on a future registration with LIHA. It will be available when you check out for those other programs.

What do I do if my child wants to try out for the Select team?

We have separated the Travel and Select tryouts as of August 14, 2026. You should now be able to go into the registration page and see the Select Tryout registrations. Please register for this tryout and you can apply the $250 credit to the $300 total fee.
