LIHA Announces New Hockey Director

By MLB, 01/03/19, 2:15PM CST

Hockey Director will focus on player and coaching development.

Happy New Year LIHA Families,

In order provide a quality hockey experience to hundreds of hockey players in Lincoln and the surrounding area, the Lincoln Ice Hockey Association (LIHA), relies on the time and talents of committed volunteers. This season, we have roughly 60 volunteer coaches who are helping grow the game of hockey and developing hockey players at every level of play. This number does not include the huge group of volunteers that help manage teams and help at team functions and serve during games. With that said, on behalf of the LIHA Board of Directors, I’d like to say thank you to all our volunteers.  We couldn’t do what we do without you.

As we enter into the second half of the 2018-2019 season, I’d like to take this opportunity to let you know that the LIHA Board is committed to the future growth of our association, especially as it relates to player and coaching development.  While we have taken positive and productive steps forward in the past several years, it is now time to make another strategic and intentional move forward.

The Lincoln Ice Hockey Association Board of Directors is proud to announce that we have hired a part-time Hockey Director who will focus on player and coaching development.  Building on the success and investment of our volunteers, this new paid position will help train, equip, resource and support players and coaches with every age group and at every level of play.

Please join us in welcoming Eric Alexander as the first LIHA Hockey Director.

Eric is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan and comes to us with a wealth of hockey experience, including AAA youth hockey (Belle Tire and Honeybaked), high school hockey, Junior / Tier 1 USHL (Chicago Steel and Lincoln Stars), Div. 1 NCAA (Ferris State), and two years of professional hockey in the ECHL and SPHL. Eric is the current Head Coach of the Jr. Stars and has had experience in developing hockey players through various camps and training opportunities.  If you would like to read more about Eric’s bio please visit:

In the next several months, Eric will begin observing practices of LIHA teams and will start working with the LIHA Board and coaches in order to develop appropriate next steps for player and coach development.  The next three    months will be primarily about observing practices to give player/coach feedback, learning about organizational operations, interacting with association members, and planning for the spring, summer and the 2019-2020 season.

In the long term, Eric will be responsible for promoting and reinforcing association rules and policies to assure that members are having a fun and positive hockey experience.  Eric will assist in selecting, resourcing, and training volunteer coaches. This would include providing guidance for practice planning, tryout process, coaching compliance, and providing informal and formal training opportunities.  Eric will also assist with the ice schedule, providing developmental opportunities like camps, clinics, special training events, tournaments, etc.. In addition, Eric will be involved with the LIHA disciplinary committee, attend board meetings as a non-voting participant, and serve as a point of contact with the Mid-West Amateur Hockey Association

The LIHA Board is very excited to have Eric as our first Hockey Director and we look forward to working with him to grow the sport of hockey in the Lincoln area.

LIHA President Mike Maseth on behalf of the LIHA Board of Directors.
