COVID-19 Policy

September 21, 2020

Dear LIHA members,

The LIHA board shares your excitement for the upcoming season. We are very pleased to be moving forward with the 2020-21 season. We are also well aware of the apprehension and questions due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.

While we are very excited and grateful for the coming season, we remain primarily committed to the health and safety of our players, coaches, volunteers, spectators, and community at large. To that end, the LIHA board has created a COVID Committee, made of current board members, who will be tasked with assisting coaches and families to navigate the next few months in light of the current pandemic. This committee has created the following policy which will remain in effect for the current hockey season. This policy may be edited or extended as applicable guidelines change.

  1.  All association members, coaches, or volunteers are expected to adhere to and fully cooperate with local Directed Health Measures (DHM) and facility/venue safety measures. This will apply to any team traveling to other locations for sanctioned competitions.  Failure to abide by any DHM may result in disciplinary actions from LIHA and/or Midwest Amateur Hockey Association (MWAHA).
  2. Please stay home if you or anyone in your household is sick or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19. Symptoms of illness include, but are not limited to, fever of 100.4 F or greater, shortness of breath, cough, loss of taste or smell.
  3. Team water bottles will not be available. Players must provide their own water bottle and not share.
  4. Please wear face coverings when off the ice and while changing in locker rooms.
  5. Please maintain distance of at least 6 feet from other teammates when using locker rooms.
  6. Please wash hands thoroughly with soap before and after practices and games.
  7. Spectators should not congregate in large groups before, during, or after practices/games, should practice social distancing, and wear face coverings.

In the event anyone tests positive for COVID-19, full cooperation with the local health department and health professionals is expected by all members and coaches of LIHA, especially as it pertains to:

  • Isolation/quarantine;
  • Contact tracing;
  • Return to play (written authorization will be required).

We ask that members be transparent and report any players or members who test positive or who may have been exposed to an individual who tested positive (school, work, practice, etc.). This will help ensure we can take the best action to help mitigate any spread of COVID-19.

Please remember there is no current vaccine or medication for the virus responsible for COVID-19. The only way to control the spread is if all members conduct themselves in a responsible manner as outlined by health professionals.

This season will likely be in flux due to COVID-19 and monetary refunds may not be available for unused ice, cancelled tournaments, etc.

We are all looking forward to a successful hockey season, but the success is the responsibility of everyone. Thank you for your consideration and LET’S GO STARS!
