Lincoln Ice Hockey Association

Hi everyone!

Welcome to Mites 2012-2013!  We had a very good practice last night, the kids had smiles on their faces as they left the ice so that is a fabulous sign!  My name is Colette Ehlers and I will be your Team Manager for the season.  My role is to be a liason between the coaches and parents to allow them to make the most of their hours on ice with the kids.  The managers are also responsible for getting the information that comes from the Board members out to you in a timely manner.  We will be setting up a "Monday morning" email to keep you informed and then if there are special items that need to be addressed sooner, you will get those as well.  

In your packet yesterday, or a while back if you were involved with the Learn To Skate program, you received your parking pass.  Please make sure that you hang it in the vehicle you will be bringing to the Ice Box.  When the Devaney Center has an event, the University has folks out collecting for parking and that yellow hangtag gets you in without any issues.  If you don't have it, please be warned they can charge you $4 to park on the grounds.  You also received a flyer on concussions.  The kids are padded up very well, but with all activities there is a risk.  Please keep an eye out for warning signs off the ice.  More information is available on the LIHA website at www.lincolnhockey.org

Speaking of the website - please be mindful to check the calendar in case we have a change in ice times.  We have one already!  This coming Saturday we will be taking the 12:40 to 1:40 time.  The Squirts had a conflict and cancelled so we are taking their spot, then public skate is still on for the 2:00 spot.  Please plan to use the locker rooms on the west side and in the northwest concourse as we did Monday.  The Ice Box does not want anyone dressing out front.  The Board is working on a plan to help us facilitate the players while keeping in compliance with the building owners' request.  Thanks for your patience while we work through it!  We know it gets congested and we have voiced our concern to the Board.

Also in your packet were order forms for apparel/window decals/bag tags (checks made out to LIHA), and then the Mites are doing a titanium necklace fundraiser (checks made out to me) with 2 purposes.  We are going to purchase pennies (colored vests)for scrimmages with the proceeds from the blue necklaces and the pink necklace proceeds are going to go to the Christensen family whose Mom is in a tough battle with cancer.  The Christensen's have 2 skaters (a Squirt and a Bantam) and we are showing our support.  All levels of hockey are participating and together we can make a difference!  Forms are due back by November 1 - this is a hard date, and we need to comply with it, to keep us on a good schedule to get the items back.  Thanks for cooperating!!

We will have a quick parent meeting next Monday at the beginning of practice once we get the kids on the ice.  Let's plan to meet on the west side by the locker rooms outside section A-B (by the zamboni pit) where we had the check-in table.  It should take too long, I will have one of the coaches stay back and introduce themselves and address you briefly before they head out onto the ice.  Then I can go over a couple things and also introduce you to Chris Bockmann.  She is on the LIHA Board and is the Director of the Team Managers for all the hockey levels.  I will also ask you to confirm your contact info and if you have additional email addresses for me to use, you can give them to me then or email me at your convenience.

I have more to tell you all, but that will come in the next email - Monday Morning!!  For now, we will see you on Saturday at 12:40, then again on Monday at 4:50.

PS if you are missing a chest pad, one was left behind Monday and I have it.   I will bring it Saturday!!

This Season for Squirt, Peewee, and Bantams will start on Saturday with an evaluation skate for each group.  Bantams @ 12:50, Squirt @ 3:40, and Peewee @ 6.
These evaluation skates will allow the skaters to get back on the ice, allow the coaches to evaluate the skaters and divide the skaters up into their NHL teams for this season.
 
This Seasons normal ice times will start on Sunday October 14th with Peewee house.
Monday, the Mites will begin @ 4:50, Squirts will follow @ 6PM.  The Bantams will skate @ 8:20.
