LIHA Fundraising Committee

LIHA needs your help!

LIHA would like to recruit the help of a few members to help with fundraising campaigns and to possibly begin the process of identifying corporate sponsorships.  The mission of this group will be to begin to lay the groundwork for future fundraising opportunities and to begin a dialogue with local businesses with the goal of hopefully making the sport of hockey more financially accessible.  We would love to have you help us grow and develop hockey in Lincoln.

If you are interested please send a brief paragraph introducing yourself and explaining why you would like to be involved in the fundraising efforts of LIHA.  We foresee this being a committee that will stay intact for the foreseeable future. Please email matt@lincolnhockey.org
if you have an interest in serving on this fundraising committee.

JR Stars Tryout and Commitment Day

The Lincoln Jr Stars MWL High School Team will hold a final tryout & commitment day on Saturday, August 28th in Fremont, NE at the Sidner Ice Arena.  We will be on the ice from 9:45 am to 11:45 am.

The cost that day will be $10 for any player who was at the spring tryout.  The cost for any new players trying out will be $30.

Please pass the word around to anyone you know of who is interested in trying out for the 2010-2011 season and hasn't already done so.

On committment day you will be required to have the following completed forms:
USA Hockey Registration
USAH Code of Conduct
USAH Waiver of Liability
USAH Consent to Treat / Medical History

$200 Down Payment on your player fees *
Any checks should be made payable to Lincoln Jr Stars.
* The $200 downpayment will be applied to your player fees.  We are still waiting on the game schedule to be determined by the Midwest League.  Once we receive the schedule, we will know what the player fees will be.  A major portion of our fees are determined by how many away games are on our schedule due to major expenses tied up in charter buses, hotels & team meals. If we won't have our schedule by Aug 28th, we will estimate the player fees & adjust them once we get the schedule.

After the $200 downpayment, the remaining fees will be divided into four more payments which willl be due on Oct 31, Nov 30, Dec 31 and Jan 31.

If you have turned in any sponsor money prior to August 28th, those funds will be credited towards the down payment.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

To All:

Summer Skills and Conditioning Camp will be Canceled!!  I am sorry about this but I only had 8 players register for the camp.  This will make it hard to use our time on the ice effective for each player who signed up along with the cost.  Again I apologize for this feel free to call me with any questions thanks.

LIHA Teams Join NHL

No, not that NHL, but we are happy to announce that LIHA, Fremont, Kearney and the Omaha Gladiators are joining forces to create the Nebraska Hockey League.  While this  NHL won't make any of our players millions of dollars like that other NHL could, it will provide a fun and competitive environment for our Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam house teams to play teams from other associations.

What is the Nebraska Hockey League?  The NHL is a league made up of the Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam house teams from LIHA, Fremont, Kearney and Omaha Gladiators.  The house teams in each of these divisions will play each other in a 10 game schedule followed by an end of the year state championship tournament for each level.

Where will NHL games be played?  Games will be played in Lincoln, Fremont, Omaha and Kearney.  To minimize travel, most teams will play back to back away games, so players will only be playing games out of town a few weekends per season.

When will NHL games be played?  All NHL games will be held on Saturdays or Sundays.  Representatives from each association are currently working on a schedule and we hope to have the finalized schedule within the next week or so.

Who will be in the NHL?  All LIHA Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam house teams will be a part of the league, as well as the Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam house teams from Fremont, Kearney and the Gladiators.

What will the NHL Cost?  There will not be any additional fees to play in the NHL.  The cost of the ice time for NHL games is covered by your LIHA registration fees.

Why is LIHA a part of the NHL?  If you have ever been a part of a house league that only had two or three teams, you know that playing the same team week after week isn't much fun.  The NHL insures that all of our house players will have plenty of competition.  At the same time, we believe that the NHL will provide a boost to player development by exposing our teams to teams and players from other associations.  We firmly believe that the NHL is good for our players and good for our association.  At the same time, we recognize that change can be hard.  We are focused on keeping house teams "house teams."  While the NHL will result in our house players playing games at other facilities, we don't believe it will involve significantly more travel than when our LIHA teams played friendship games with Kearney or against other house teams in the Cornhusker State Games Hockey Tournament (which, unfortunately, no longer exists).  While these were great experiences for our players, they weren't consistent from year to year and the responsibility for arranging these games largely fell on our already busy volunteer coaches.  By creating a formalized house league between Lincoln, Fremont, Kearney and Omaha, we can provide regular games between the associations that will continue from year to year.

Why aren't the Mites included in the NHL?  We don't want to put the emphasis on games for our Mite players.  However, the NHL associations will be hosting mite and possibly mini-mite jambories throughout the year so that these players will get the opportunity to play other teams as well.

If you have any comments, questions or concerns about the NHL, don't hesitate to contact me.
